The Lord Jesus Christ said Heaven, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”  (Mark 10:14)  No parent wants to hear a question such as, Do you really love your child? The immediate thought is, Of course I love my child.

The vast majority of parents want the very best for their children, be it a good education, health services, exercise programs, nutritious foods. These are all temporal needs and are very important for the well being and development of the child.

Choosing Heaven

Many parents are also concerned with their children having some teaching in religion with the hope that it will help to establish a sound moral and ethical character for the child. Sadly, many other parents are not interested in this aspect of the child’s life at all.

Most alarming is the fact that few parents seem to care at all or even think about their child going to Heaven. In other words, the focus is on the child’s 80, 90 or even 100 years in this life and no thought for where their precious little one will spend all of eternity.

God Loves Your Child

Religion is not very likely to secure the child’s eternal destination in Heaven because there are literally thousands of religions in the world. You might be saying that you don’t believe in God or life beyond this world and therefore, you are going to ignore this component of the child’s life. There’s no problem here UNLESS your beliefs are wrong. If your beliefs are wrong, you will suffer the consequences – that’s your choice. But, is it fair to your child to ignore his or her eternal security?

We choose our beliefs just like everything else in life. And, like everything else we choose we do make mistakes. Your child will probably survive okay even if you choose the wrong pre-school, a less than state-of-the-art toothbrush, or a perfectly decorated nursery. However, your child’s eternal destiny should preempt any and all other life decisions.

Do You Really Love Your Child?

Think about the Lord’s words above, “…forbid them not.” For you to ignore your child’s eternal welfare is to forbid them from knowing God and He will hold you, the parent, personally accountable.

However, children are very smart and if they see that God is not in your life then it’s less likely that they will believe and be saved from Hell. “Do as I say and not as I do” will not be very effective in this circumstance.

No parent likes to think of his or her child suffering. The suffering off Hell is unimaginable compared to any suffering in this world.

If you truly love your child, then make sure he or she has the opportunity to learn the way to Heaven at an early age.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”  (Proverbs 22:6)
